AI-Powered Passive Drone Detection

The Drone Detection System is an innovative AI-powered solution developed by the National Research Council Canada to identify and track uncrewed aerial systems (drones) in complex environments. Currently in development, this system uses artificial intelligence to detect, track, and characterize drones based on the acoustic and electromagnetic signals generated by their rotating propellers, rather than relying on image recognition or visual identification methods.

The system is designed to enhance security and safety by accurately identifying low-flying drones that may attempt to evade detection using natural terrain features. It generates very few false alarms, making it a reliable tool for protecting privacy, security, and infrastructure. The primary users of this system are Government of Canada employees. Please note that this system does not involve the collection or processing of personal information about individuals.
