AI-Powered Geospatial Data Extraction System

The CCMEO GeoAI Factory and GeoAI Data Series is an artificial intelligence system developed by the Government of Canada to automatically extract geospatial information from satellite and aerial imagery. The system identifies and maps buildings, roads, water features, and forested areas across Canada's landscape, providing continuously updated location-based data to improve the accuracy and currency of Canada's geographic information.

This system processes multi-modal satellite and aerial imagery to automatically detect and extract geographic features over time and space. The extracted data is primarily used by Government of Canada employees to support mapping initiatives and inform decision-making about Canada's land, water, and infrastructure. The system does not process personal information.

The system is currently in production and has been registered with the Government of Canada's AI inventory. All processing uses licensed imagery and NRCan-owned geographic data sources to ensure the quality and accuracy of the extracted geographic information.
