AI-Powered IT Support Assistant for Government Employees
Milo is an internal IT support chatbot deployed by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to help government employees resolve technical issues and access IT information. Originally launched in 2019 as a traditional chatbot, Milo has been enhanced with generative AI capabilities starting in 2024 to provide more natural, conversational assistance. The system integrates with AAFC's IT ticketing infrastructure to streamline support requests and answer frequently asked technical questions.
Milo is used exclusively by Government of Canada employees and does not collect or process personal information. The system helps users navigate IT support more efficiently by understanding their requests in plain language and either providing immediate answers or routing them to the appropriate IT ticketing system. As a retired system as of the status date, Milo is no longer actively maintained, but this documentation describes its operational architecture during its deployment period.
This AI system has been notified to the appropriate governance bodies as part of Canada's AI accountability framework. Users can expect transparent interactions with this technology and should understand that their IT support interactions may be logged by the system to improve its responses over time.
