SmartTagging is an artificial intelligence system being developed to automatically organize and categorize millions of Government of Canada documents stored in HRSB's information holdings. The system uses generative AI and natural language processing to identify and assign metadata tags that help organize up to 20 million documents, making them easier to find and manage.
This system is currently in development and is used by GC employees who need to organize and access government documents. The system does not process personal information. The AI is being developed with the assistance of a Microsoft vendor and is deployed through either EVA Domain or MS Purview platforms. As this is an AI system, we are providing transparency about how it works and what it does.
