International Crisis Response Media Monitoring System
GLOSSE is a retired AI platform developed by the Government of Canada that monitored local news media overseas to support international Watch Offices in responding to local crises. The system was designed to help quickly identify the most suitable evacuation countries and routes for Canadians overseas during conflicts and other emergency situations. GLOSSE processed news from major international sources including Dow Jones Factiva and RSS news feeds, applying advanced language processing to translate content, score relevance, map geographic locations, detect duplicate stories, and categorize information by crisis type and location.
The system was used exclusively by Government of Canada employees to support rapid decision-making during international emergencies. GLOSSE did not involve the collection or processing of personal information about individuals. As a retired system, it is no longer in active operation.
