AI-Powered Water Level Monitoring Near Rail Lines

Transport Canada has developed an artificial intelligence system to assess water levels and evaluate flooding risks near railway lines using advanced drone, satellite, and hi-rail lidar data. This system helps protect critical rail infrastructure by identifying potential flooding hazards before they can impact operations and safety.

The system uses specialized algorithms to analyze multiple data sources and generate risk assessments that inform decision-making about rail line maintenance, emergency preparedness, and infrastructure protection. The primary users of this system are Government of Canada employees responsible for rail infrastructure management and safety.

This system does not involve the collection or processing of personal information about individuals. All data collected relates to environmental and geographic conditions that may affect railway operations.
