AI-Powered Document Classification and Organization System

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) deployed an automated document classification system to manage approximately 10 million documents from legacy Network Shared Drives (NSD). This AI system automatically classifies documents, creates metadata, and identifies redundant, obsolete, or trivial information for removal, helping to streamline document management and integrate information architecture.

The system was developed through a competitive Request for Proposal process and is now retired. Government of Canada employees were the primary users of this system. This system processes personal information and has been notified to relevant oversight bodies. The system was developed by a vendor partner, Oproma, and integrates classified documents into the GCdocs platform for improved accessibility and organization.
