AI System for Detecting Disinformation and Foreign Interference
The Disinformation Dashboard is an artificial intelligence system developed by Global Affairs Canada to identify and analyze potential disinformation narratives and patterns of foreign interference in media sources. Using IBM Watson Natural Language Understanding technology, the system automatically extracts and analyzes information about people, organizations, and locations from traditional media, social media, and licensed content aggregators. The system scores articles for relevance to Canadian foreign policy and evaluates reputational risks.
This system is designed to support Government of Canada employees in their analysis of global media trends and potential threats to Canada's interests. The system processes large volumes of unstructured text data from various sources to identify key entities and detect coordinated disinformation patterns. Because the system analyzes publicly available information that may contain personal information about individuals and organizations, users and the public should understand how this data is processed and what safeguards are in place.
Status: This system is currently retired and no longer in active use. The system involved processing of personal information extracted from media sources. For questions about how this system operated or archived data, please contact Global Affairs Canada.
