AI-Powered Fisheries Information Retrieval System
The Pacific RAG Chatbot is an artificial intelligence system developed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada to help users find specific information about DFO policies, governance, scientific research, and fisheries management activities in British Columbia and the Yukon. The system uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technology to search the DFO Pacific Fisheries website and return relevant documents and images based on user questions.
This system is designed to make it easier for users to access information that is already publicly available on the DFO website. Rather than manually searching through the website, users can ask the chatbot questions in plain language, and it will retrieve and present the most relevant information and images. The system currently does not involve the collection or use of personal information.
The chatbot is currently in development and is intended primarily for use by Government of Canada employees. As part of DFO's commitment to transparent and responsible AI deployment, this system has been registered and is subject to ongoing oversight and evaluation.
