AI-Powered Service Desk Virtual Agents

Environment and Climate Change Canada has developed virtual agents to serve as a primary point of contact for the service desk. These AI-powered assistants are grounded in documented organizational knowledge bases and are designed to respond to common questions using natural language processing. The system aims to reduce the workload associated with triaging service intake requests by providing immediate, accurate responses to frequently asked questions.

The virtual agents draw from individual program knowledge bases, intranet content, and relevant policies and legislation to deliver informed responses. This proof-of-concept project is currently in development and does not involve the processing of personal information. The system is primarily used by Government of Canada employees seeking service desk support.

As this is a notification AI system under development, the public should be aware that virtual agent interactions are designed to efficiently route inquiries and provide self-service support. The system operates without collecting or storing personal data about users, focusing instead on delivering standardized responses based on organizational knowledge.
