AI-Powered Fire Risk Detection Near Railways
Transport Canada has developed an artificial intelligence system that uses drone-mounted lidar technology to assess vegetation dryness and detect fire risk near railway lines. This system analyzes lidar data to identify areas of dry vegetation that could pose a fire hazard to rail infrastructure and surrounding communities.
The system is used by Government of Canada employees to monitor vegetation conditions along rail corridors and support decision-making around fire prevention and vegetation management. By automating the analysis of lidar data, the system helps identify high-risk areas more quickly and efficiently than manual inspections alone.
This system does not involve the collection or use of personal information about individuals. It focuses exclusively on analyzing environmental data about vegetation and landscape conditions near rail lines.
