AI-Powered Document Value Assessment
This system used IBM Watson Explorer, a cognitive computing platform, to automatically determine whether electronic documents held business value for retention purposes. The proof-of-concept leveraged computer vision and natural language processing capabilities to analyze document content and recommend retention decisions. This retired system was deployed to help Government of Canada employees manage the growing volume of digital records by identifying which documents should be preserved for operational or compliance reasons.
The system did not process personal information, focusing instead on document classification tasks. It was used internally by GC employees as part of a limited evaluation to assess the viability of cognitive technologies for records management workflows. As a retired system, it is no longer in active use.
This transparency page provides insights into how the system operated, including its analytical capabilities, output classifications, and the processing methods that enabled automated document assessment.
