AI-Powered Gun Detection in Postal X-Rays
Canada Border Services Agency is developing an artificial intelligence system that uses machine learning to automatically detect guns and gun parts in X-ray images of postal items. This system is currently in development and is designed to enhance border security by quickly identifying prohibited firearms in mail shipments.
The AI system analyzes X-ray images to recognize objects that match the characteristics of guns and gun components. By automating this detection process, the system aims to improve the speed and consistency of screening at postal inspection facilities. The system will be used by Government of Canada employees involved in border security operations.
This system does not involve the processing of personal information. It focuses exclusively on object detection within X-ray imagery. The system is being developed by a vendor partner and will be deployed as part of Canada Border Services Agency's cargo and mail screening operations.
