Statistics Canada has developed a generative AI chatbot to support respondents completing the Annual Survey of Manufacturing and Logging (ASML). This intelligent assistant answers questions about survey concepts and definitions in real-time, helping survey participants understand what information is being requested and how to provide accurate responses.
The chatbot is designed to improve the survey experience by providing instant, clear guidance to respondents. By offering immediate answers to common questions, the system reduces the burden on Statistics Canada's data collection staff while helping to improve overall data quality. The system does not involve the collection of personal information.
This system is currently in development. Members of the public who participate in the ASML survey will be the primary users of this chatbot, interacting with it through the survey platform to get clarification on survey questions and definitions as needed.
