AI-Assisted Child Exploitation Image Classification
LASERi-X is an artificial intelligence system deployed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to assist in the categorization and classification of child sexual exploitation material. The system uses image and object recognition technology to pre-qualify images as potential child exploitation material, with all decisions subject to human review and confirmation by trained law enforcement personnel.
This system is currently in production and is used by Government of Canada employees working in child exploitation investigations. The system processes lawfully obtained images and involves personal information in its operations. LASERi-X was developed by Semantics 21 and represents a significant tool in the fight against child sexual exploitation, combining automated detection capabilities with essential human oversight to ensure accuracy and accountability in this critical law enforcement function.
