Instant Online Access Through Facial Recognition

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) launched the Digital Identity Validation system in March 2024 to provide taxpayers with immediate access to online tax services. Previously, taxpayers had to wait 5-10 days to receive a security code by mail. The new system uses facial recognition technology combined with government-issued ID verification to authenticate users instantly through their smartphones. This AI-powered solution significantly reduces wait times and decreases demand on CRA contact centres. The system is currently in production and primarily serves members of the public who need to access CRA online services. Please note: This system processes personal information, including facial biometric data and government-issued identity documents.
