AI-Assisted Software Development for Government

Codeium is an AI-powered code completion and suggestion system currently in development by the Canada School of Public Service. The system accelerates software development and reduces manual coding effort by automatically completing code, suggesting fixes, and generating boilerplate templates using context-aware artificial intelligence trained on open-source repositories. The primary users are Government of Canada employees involved in software development activities.

This system does not involve the collection or processing of personal information about individuals. Instead, it operates on internal government code and development contexts to provide intelligent coding assistance. Government developers benefit from reduced development time and improved code quality through AI-assisted suggestions and completions. The system is being developed by an external vendor (Windsurf) and has been registered in the Government of Canada's AI registry to ensure transparency and accountability in its deployment and use.
