Ombot is an artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant available on Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada's intranet. It provides employees with confidential, private access to information about the Ombuds Office services without fear of exposure. The system was created to address employee concerns about privacy and reduce barriers to accessing employee support services, particularly in sensitive situations.
The system uses generative artificial intelligence and natural language processing to have conversations with employees in both English and French, providing accurate, real-time answers about Ombuds services sourced from a controlled knowledge base. Ombot is designed for Government of Canada employees and is currently in production. The system does not collect or process personal information about users.
Ombot includes safeguards and governance measures to ensure privacy, safety, and responsible use. The goal is to increase employee trust in support services and enable the system to be deployed across multiple departments as a scalable "bot-in-a-box" model.
