AI-Powered Media Story Identification System

The Copyright Media Clearance Program (CMCP) is an AI pilot project developed by Public Services and Procurement Canada to automate the identification and prioritization of top news stories from licensed media monitoring feeds. The system uses artificial intelligence to analyze news content, detect topics, and rank stories by relevance and importance for Government of Canada analysts.

This system processes textual content and metadata from news articles to help federal employees more efficiently identify and summarize significant media coverage. The AI analyzes patterns in news content to automatically rank stories and detect emerging topics, reducing the time analysts spend manually reviewing large volumes of media feeds. As this system is still in development, it is being evaluated as an initial pilot project.

Key transparency information: The system processes non-personal media content (does not involve personal information about individuals); it is used by Government of Canada employees; the technology is still being developed and tested; and it involves partnership with NewsDesk for data feeds and the National Research Council's AI Accelerator for development support.
