AI-Powered Document Translation System
GAC Translate is an artificial intelligence system developed by the Government of Canada that enables users to upload documents and receive automated translations from most world languages. The system was originally created to quickly translate documents with unknown content that may contain personal information, helping determine if they require immediate and official translation. It was initially built for the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise to handle Protected B Information, and has since been expanded to serve all Global Affairs Canada (GAC) employees.
The system accepts user-uploaded documents and processes them through machine translation technology to provide translations in multiple languages. This system is currently in production and is used by GAC employees across the department. Important to know: This system processes documents that may contain personal information, and users should be aware of data handling practices when uploading sensitive materials.
As an AI system that handles potentially sensitive government documents, GAC Translate includes safeguards and transparency measures to ensure responsible use. The system is designed to assist with document triage and initial translation needs, helping government staff quickly assess content before formal translation services are engaged.
