AI-Powered One Health Risk Indicator System
The OneHealth Emergency Tool is an artificial intelligence system currently in development by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada that searches, compiles, and organizes publicly available One Health risk indicators. One Health is an integrated approach that recognizes the interconnection between human health, animal health, and environmental health. This system addresses critical public health challenges by tracking zoonotic diseases (diseases that jump from animals to humans), antimicrobial resistance, transmissible animal diseases, and plant and animal diseases that have significant health and economic impacts.
The system uses generative AI and large language models to search through publicly available data sources including research papers, websites, and government databases. It automatically filters, organizes, and stores this information in a structured, editable format while eliminating duplicate entries. This helps public health officials and government employees access comprehensive, current information about emerging health threats more efficiently. The tool is designed to support evidence-based decision-making during health emergencies by providing a centralized repository of risk indicators.
Key transparency information: This tool does not collect or process personal information about individuals. It is intended for use by Government of Canada employees who need access to One Health risk data. The system is currently in development and will be built on generative AI technology that processes and organizes existing public health data rather than creating new personal records.
