AI-Assisted Ministerial Letter Writing System
This retired AI system was developed by Canadian Heritage to explore how generative artificial intelligence could assist in drafting ministerial correspondence. The system was tested to determine whether AI-generated responses could match or exceed the quality of human-written letters while improving efficiency in terms of time, completeness, and error reduction.
The system was designed for use by Government of Canada employees as an experimental tool integrated into existing workflows with minimal disruption. It processed publicly available information rather than personal data, and operated in accordance with Government of Canada privacy standards and policies.
This pilot project has concluded, but its findings inform ongoing discussions about implementing generative AI to streamline government communication workflows. Key considerations include maintaining quality standards, ensuring appropriate human oversight, and integrating AI tools effectively into existing ministerial operations.
