AI-Powered Clean Technology Investment Tracking
The Clean Technology Data Strategy uses artificial intelligence to automatically identify and classify federal investments in clean technology projects. By analyzing publicly disclosed grants and contributions data, the system aims to reduce the administrative burden of manual data collection and reporting, which previously required annual gathering from multiple programs.
This machine learning model identifies clean technology projects and categorizes them by subsector, enabling the government to better track federal clean technology investments and inform policy development. The system was developed by the Government of Canada using open-source software and trained on historical grant and contribution data. It is currently in production and used by Government of Canada employees to support program administration and policy decisions.
Importantly, this system does not involve the collection or processing of personal information about individuals. It works exclusively with publicly available administrative data about government funding programs and projects.
