AI-Powered Legal Research for Government Lawyers

Westlaw Edge AI is an artificial intelligence-enhanced legal research platform developed by Thomson Reuters that supports lawyers and legal professionals working in Canada's Administrative Tribunals Support Service. The system uses advanced natural language processing and machine learning to help legal professionals conduct legal research more efficiently by answering legal questions in plain language, generating summaries of case law with supporting citations, identifying relevant jurisdictional laws, and providing litigation analytics to support case strategy and decision-making.

The platform operates as an AI layer on top of Westlaw's established legal content database, which contains carefully curated and maintained legal materials. When legal professionals use the system to research cases, statutes, or legal principles, the AI analyzes their natural language queries and provides relevant results from the curated legal corpus. This system is currently in production and is used exclusively by Government of Canada employees in legal support roles.

This system does not process personal information about individuals. The system is designed to assist legal professionals in their research and analysis work, and all underlying legal content is maintained securely within the Westlaw platform infrastructure.
