AI-Powered Insect Identification for Biodiversity Tracking
The Arthropod Detection and Classification System uses computer vision technology to automatically identify different insect species from images captured using sticky traps. This AI system is currently in development and is designed to help Government of Canada employees track and monitor biodiversity across agricultural regions.
The system analyzes trap images and displays results through an easy-to-use online dashboard, making it simple for users to see which insect species are present and track changes over time. This helps support agricultural monitoring and research efforts. The system does not collect or process personal information about individuals—it focuses solely on identifying insects and their populations.
As a government AI system, this tool operates with transparency in mind. Users should know that the system uses computer vision models trained on scientific research to make its identifications, and results are available only to authorized Government of Canada employees who use the system.
