This AI system automatically identifies and catalogs standards-based geospatial web services across Canada's internet domain (.ca) and Arctic regions. The system discovers services such as Web Map Services (WMS), Web Feature Services (WFS), Web Map Tile Services (WMTS), and Esri REST services that provide access to geospatial data. By identifying these services, the system helps Natural Resources Canada understand how widely geospatial standards are being adopted and which services contribute to the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) and Arctic Spatial Data Infrastructure (ArcticSDI).
The system operates in production and is available to both government employees and the general public. It processes only publicly available web services that are accessed over the Internet—no personal information is collected or processed by this system. The AI uses machine learning to automatically filter and categorize discovered services, making it easier for organizations to participate in and benefit from Canada's geospatial data ecosystem.
