AI-Powered Agricultural Trade Monitoring System

FIESCA is an artificial intelligence platform developed by the National Research Council Canada that monitors agricultural trade publications from countries that export food to Canada. The system automatically scans news sources and agricultural trade publications to detect newly authorized pesticides and other regulatory changes in foreign countries, allowing Canada to proactively increase food safety testing at its borders.

The system uses advanced AI capabilities including translation, relevance scoring, geographic mapping, and content categorization to process large volumes of agricultural trade information. By identifying emerging food safety concerns before products reach Canadian borders, FIESCA helps protect public health and supports evidence-based decision-making for food import inspections.
