AI-Powered Satellite Monitoring of Shallow Waters

This system uses artificial intelligence and satellite imagery to automatically map and monitor shoals—areas of shallow water that pose navigation hazards. The system is designed to provide timely information about changing water depths and underwater formations that could affect maritime safety and transportation.

The system processes satellite data to identify and track shoals in real-time, helping maritime authorities and navigation professionals make informed decisions about route planning and safety protocols. This is Phase 1 of the project, focusing on developing and testing the core mapping and monitoring capabilities.

Key information for the public: This system is currently in development phase. It does not involve personal information about individuals. The system is used by Government of Canada employees within the Canadian Space Agency.
