AI-Powered Trade Support Chatbot

The Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) has deployed an AI-powered chatbot on its refreshed website to help Canadian exporters access trade information and support services more easily. This intelligent assistant uses generative AI technology to answer questions about trade opportunities, services, and export resources in both English and French.

The chatbot works by analyzing user questions and matching them against the TCS website content, frequently asked questions, and information from other government departments. When users ask questions, the system generates responses with citations showing where the information comes from, ensuring transparency and accuracy. The chatbot also logs information about user interactions to help improve its performance and user experience over time.

This system is currently in production and is available to members of the public. The chatbot does not collect or store personal information about users—it only tracks general engagement metrics and session activity to measure effectiveness. The system is designed to enhance accessibility to trade resources while maintaining user privacy.
