The AI AWS Transform - Mainframe system is a proof of concept developed by the Canada Revenue Agency to explore how artificial intelligence can help modernize our legacy COBOL mainframe applications. This system uses machine learning to automatically analyze thousands of lines of legacy code, identify key system components, generate documentation, and extract underlying business logic that would otherwise require manual review by developers.
The system is currently in development and is intended for use by Government of Canada employees involved in application modernization and infrastructure analysis. It processes the source code of our mainframe applications to create structured insights about system architecture and functionality, helping us plan more informed modernization strategies.
This proof of concept does not involve the processing of personal information about individuals. It focuses exclusively on technical analysis of our internal application code to support organizational decision-making around technology infrastructure.
