AI-Powered Language Model for Canadian Government
The GC LLM (GC Large Language Model) is an artificial intelligence system developed by Shared Services Canada that fine-tunes an open-source language model to provide responses grounded in Canadian context and knowledge. For example, the system correctly identifies that Parliament is located in Ottawa, not London, and applies specialized Canadian understanding across government operations.
This system is currently in production and is used by Government of Canada employees who need language understanding and generation capabilities tailored to Canadian government contexts. The model does not involve the processing of personal information. It was developed in part by Shared Services Canada and leverages technology from Meta, utilizing historical data collected from Library and Archives Canada to build and refine its knowledge base.
