CANChat is a generative AI chatbot pilot developed by Shared Services Canada to provide Government of Canada employees with access to secure, sovereign artificial intelligence tools. The system uses Large Language Models to enable multi-function AI assistance while maintaining strict security and data sovereignty standards.
The system is currently in production and is primarily used by GC employees seeking general-purpose AI assistance. CANChat is designed to operate securely within Canada's regulatory environment while providing cost-effective access to generative AI capabilities. The platform prioritizes made-in-Canada solutions where available and uses open-source technology (Open WebUI) to ensure transparency and control.
This AI system does not involve collection or processing of personal information beyond what is necessary for authentication and service delivery. All processing is conducted securely within Canadian jurisdiction to protect employee data and government operations.
