AI-Assisted Police Report Writing Tool

Draft One is an artificial intelligence system developed by Axon to assist Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers in creating police reports more efficiently. The system works by capturing audio from body-worn cameras, automatically transcribing the audio into text, and then using advanced language processing technology to generate a draft narrative summary of the incident. Officers review, edit, and approve these draft reports before they are finalized, maintaining full control over the content and accuracy of official documents.

This system processes personal information about individuals involved in police incidents. The system is currently in production and is used by RCMP employees. The AI uses a large language model to transform audio and transcribed text into draft report narratives, which helps reduce the time officers spend on administrative tasks and aims to improve consistency in report writing.

Citizens should know that if you are involved in a police incident where an officer is wearing a body camera, audio from that interaction may be transcribed and processed by this AI system to help generate a draft police report. Officers retain the ability to edit all AI-generated content, and the final report remains subject to standard police review and oversight procedures.
