AI-Powered Robotic Arm Safety and Planning

The Canadarm3 Autonomy and Safety AI Modules are advanced artificial intelligence systems developed to support the safe and autonomous operation of Canada's next-generation robotic arm in space. These modules enable the robotic arm to plan its movements, define flight operations, and continuously monitor safety conditions during complex tasks on space stations and exploration missions.

These AI systems affect both Canadian Space Agency employees who operate and oversee the robotic arm, as well as the broader public whose safety depends on reliable space operations. The system uses artificial intelligence to make real-time decisions about trajectory planning and safety thresholds, helping ensure that space operations proceed safely and efficiently.

This system does not involve the collection of personal information about individuals. It is developed by vendor MDA Inc and its subsidiaries, and is operated under the Canadian Space Agency's oversight. The AI modules represent an important investment in autonomous space technology that supports Canada's contributions to international space exploration.
