AI-Powered CO2 Capture Technology Assessment

Natural Resources Canada operates the National CCUS Assessment Framework CO2 Capture Tools, an AI system designed to predict the performance, cost, and environmental impact of carbon capture and utilization/storage (CCUS) technologies. The system uses an automated machine learning pipeline that combines process simulation data, costing information, and life cycle assessment data to create accurate predictions about how different CO2 capture technologies will perform in real-world applications.

This system is currently in production and is used by Government of Canada employees to evaluate and compare CCUS technology options. The AI system does not process personal information. By providing reliable, data-driven assessments of capture technologies, the system helps inform strategic decisions about climate change mitigation investments and technology development priorities.
