AI System Assisting Border Compliance Assessment
The Travellers Compliance Indicators (TCI) is an artificial intelligence system currently under development by the Canada Border Services Agency to assist border officers in their work. The system uses machine learning algorithms to help identify travellers who are likely to be compliant with border regulations and requirements.
This system will process personal information about travellers to support decision-making by Government of Canada employees at border checkpoints. The system is still in development and is not expected to be deployed until 2026. As an AI system that uses personal data to make assessments about individual travellers, it is subject to privacy safeguards and transparency requirements to ensure fair and accountable operations.
The primary users of this system will be Government of Canada border services employees who will use the AI-generated indicators to inform their compliance assessments and decision-making processes at ports of entry.
