The Factoid Finder Tool is an AI system developed by the Government of Canada to help employees efficiently search and extract information from large libraries of scientific and grey literature documents. Rather than relying on traditional keyword-based search methods, the system uses Small Language Models to perform semantic search, allowing users to find contextually relevant passages within PDF documents more effectively. This reduces the manual labor required for reviewing and organizing knowledge from documents.
The system is currently in production and is used by Government of Canada employees. It does not involve processing personal information. The Factoid Finder leverages machine learning to understand the meaning and context of search queries, enabling more intelligent document navigation and information retrieval across complex document collections.
