AI-Powered Metadata Generation for Digital Archives

Library and Archives Canada developed a proof of concept system in partnership with Oproma to automatically generate and enrich metadata descriptions for digitized government publications. The system processes digital documents to create structured metadata that improves discoverability and organization of archival materials.

This system is designed for use by Government of Canada employees who manage digital collections and archival materials. The metadata enrichment process helps organize and describe government publications more efficiently, making them easier to find and understand through library systems and archives.

Please note: This is a retired proof of concept system. It does not process personal information. The system uses artificial intelligence to analyze document content and generate descriptive metadata rather than making decisions about individuals or allocating resources.
