Global Affairs Canada uses an AI-assisted system to improve the accuracy and consistency of data entry for grants and international contributions. The system analyzes grant documents using advanced natural language processing and computer vision technologies to automatically extract and classify project information into standardized data fields. This automation helps ensure better tracking, reporting, and accountability of Canada's international assistance programs.
The system is currently in production and is used by Government of Canada employees. It does not process personal information about individuals. The system uses Azure AI Document Intelligence, AI Vision, and Large Language Models to read grant documents, extract key information, and automatically categorize projects by development assistance codes, policy markers, and countries. This technology supports both English and French language processing.
