Video Frame Synthesis Technology
The Image Interpolation System is an AI technology developed by the National Film Board that synthesizes intermediate video frames between existing frames. This technology was explored during the development phase of a project but was ultimately not used in production. The system uses open-source algorithms to estimate and generate new frames that did not exist in the original video recording.
This system was tested by Government of Canada employees as part of research and development activities. The system is currently retired and no longer in active use. This technology does not involve the collection or processing of personal information about individuals.
As this was a development-phase technology that did not proceed to production, there is limited operational impact. The system demonstrates the National Film Board's exploration of emerging AI capabilities for creative and technical applications in film production.
