Machine Learning Container Arrival Predictions

Transport Canada, in collaboration with Statistics Canada, developed a machine learning algorithm to forecast container volume arrivals at the Port of Vancouver. This system analyzes historical import declaration data to predict future container volumes, helping port operators and logistics professionals plan operations more effectively.

The system processes data from Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) import declarations to identify patterns and trends in container arrivals. It does not involve personal information about individuals. This system is currently retired and no longer in active operation.

Primary users of this system are Government of Canada employees who work in port operations, logistics planning, and supply chain management. The system was developed internally by Transport Canada in collaboration with Statistics Canada using machine learning capabilities.
