AI-Powered Medical File Organization System

EVA Smart Assist for Medical Adjudication is an artificial intelligence system currently in development by Employment and Social Development Canada to support the Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPPD) program. The system uses advanced AI technologies including Retrieval-Augmented Generation, Natural Language Processing, and Optical Character Recognition to help medical adjudicators quickly locate and organize key information from medical files.

This system is designed to reduce administrative burden on medical adjudicators by automatically producing file overviews, identifying critical documents, and providing citation reference links. By automating these time-consuming tasks, the system enables adjudicators to focus their expertise on the actual adjudication process, ultimately helping to reduce application backlogs and improve processing times for disability benefit applicants.

The system will be used by Government of Canada employees who work as medical adjudicators. As this system processes personal health information from disability benefit applicants, it includes privacy protections and transparent policies governing how medical and personal data is handled during the adjudication process. The system is currently under development and subject to ongoing assessment.
