Automated Document Classification for Digital Archives

Library and Archives Canada developed an AI textual analysis tool as a pilot project to automatically categorize and create metadata for digital archival materials. The system analyzes up to 25,000 digital files to automatically classify documents and integrate them into the institution's information architecture, improving discoverability and organization of historical records.

This system was primarily used by Government of Canada employees to enhance archival management workflows. The system does not process personal information, focusing instead on document classification and metadata creation tasks. This pilot project has been retired and is no longer in active use.
