AI-Powered Document and Data Assistant
Microsoft Copilot is an artificial intelligence system deployed by the Canada School of Public Service to help Government of Canada employees automate routine tasks. The system uses generative AI capabilities integrated into Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and provides contextual chat assistance through Microsoft Graph. Employees can use Copilot to draft documents, analyze data, and create presentations more efficiently.
The system is currently in production and is primarily used by GC employees within the Government of Canada's Microsoft tenant environment. Copilot accesses emails, documents, and chat messages stored within the organization's tenant to provide contextual assistance. Because the system processes personal information and organizational data, the Canada School of Public Service has implemented this system with appropriate oversight and transparency measures to ensure responsible AI use within government operations.
This page provides transparency about how Copilot operates, what data it uses, how decisions are made, and what protections are in place. Government employees using this system should understand these details to make informed decisions about what information they share with the AI assistant.
