AI-Powered Document and Email Assistant
M365 Copilot is an artificial intelligence assistant developed by Microsoft that helps Government of Canada employees draft and modify emails and documents, summarize content, and answer questions based on information from internal organizational systems. The system is currently in production as part of a Government of Canada pilot program, allowing the Digital Services Branch of Environment and Climate Change Canada to assess its value and scalability before potential broader deployment.
The system works by accessing organizational data that individual users already have permission to view, including documents stored in SharePoint, OneDrive, email messages and attachments in Outlook, and conversations in Teams. When you use M365 Copilot, it analyzes this information to provide personalized assistance with writing, summarization, tone feedback, and knowledge discovery across your organization's internal content.
Important to know: This system processes personal information and is currently being evaluated during a pilot phase. The system does not have access to the public internet and relies on your existing organizational access permissions to function. Notifications are provided when the AI is being used.
